Funding Assistant Position - Volunteer

posted Mar 5, 2017, 1:09 PM by Viv Dostine   [ updated Sep 30, 2017, 12:42 AM ]

Volunteer to assist our funding manager (also a volunteer) to put together grants applications for our charitable trust, and reconcile those grants if funding is obtained.  This position mainly deals with getting quotes for project materials, or services, but it will also require you to work with other members of the organisation to get details of the project e.g. getting details of items from our Head Coach, or putting together a Bill of Materials (BOM) with our property manager. Once funding is obtained, you will assist in reconciling the grant application  - ensuring that the funding is properly accounted for, and all requirements of the grant are met.

This position will give you great experience in the non-profit, and the community grants sectors, and give you a great start in the business world with real-world experience in both ethical, and legal accountability, as well as understanding business processes and timelines at a Board and Management level in a charitable organisation (which are directly transferable to most profit driven businesses).

You will need to work with deadlines, show initiative, and attention to detail, and communicate well with others from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Hours are flexible.  We are looking for someone who can allocate a few hours per month.  Generally these will be bounded by the processes of funding committees and our Board meetings, so while you need to meet deadlines, there is quite a lot of flexibility in time to do the tasks themselves.

We are located in Whangaparaoa, but you can perform all tasks required remotely if you wish. Our Board\ volunteer management team use Skype and email\Google + Suite. We do encourage a visit to our site to see our programmes in action, and at least one face-to-face meeting with our Funding Manager before starting, so that you can appreciate what we do, how we operate and understand the importance of, and constraints on, the tasks you may be assigned.

Farm Manager [Board Position if desired]

posted Sep 17, 2016, 11:37 PM by Viv Dostine   [ updated Oct 1, 2017, 2:48 PM ]

We're looking for someone who loves the land, understands the need of horses, and enjoys being able to work independently on DIY type projects.

Ideally an experienced horseperson (or at least someone experienced with stock), who can understand the grazing requirements, fix fences, and do all the varied jobs needed to keep a small equestrian property in working order.   Someone who enjoys building will enjoy the freedom of being able to put together small projects (like roofs for our water tanks to catch the rain).

There's scope for an independent type to really take charge, and do as much as they enjoy, and work their own hours.  We'd hope for someone who can spend a few hours per week on-site, but would also look at other options (perhaps you'd like to help out with this sort of role, but not the full farm manager role).

There's the opportunity to:
  • join our Board to plan property management and maintenance,
  • employ contractors to complete the bigger projects (through grants), and\or
  • manage the volunteers who do these tasks.
if you wish, or be more hands-on only, and enjoy the outdoor spaces, while contributing to a busy charity
